The Groaners
Carrying the Nations Before the Throne of God
Every great movement of God begins in prayer.
Before missionaries are sent, churches are planted, or lives are transformed, someone is faithfully seeking God on behalf of the nations. Groaners understand that the Great Commission is not won by strategy alone. It is advanced through the power of God working in response to the prayers of His people.
They may never stand on a platform.
They may never travel across the world.
Yet their prayers help make every other part of the mission possible.
Who Are the Groaners?
Groaners are the intercessors of the Great Commission. They carry a deep burden for people they may never meet, faithfully praying for missionaries, churches, unreached people groups, and spiritual breakthrough around the world.
They believe that prayer is not simply something we do before ministry begins.
Prayer is ministry.
Rather than asking, “What can I do?” Groaners ask, “How can I faithfully stand in the gap for those carrying the Gospel?”
Why Groaners Matter
Jesus never told His followers to simply admire the harvest.
He instructed them to ask the Lord of the harvest to send laborers into the fields, reminding us that prayer has always been God’s strategy for raising up workers and preparing the way for the Gospel.
Throughout Scripture, prayer preceded breakthrough. Nations were changed, doors were opened, hearts were softened, and God’s people found strength because someone faithfully sought Him.
That same pattern continues today.
Every missionary, every church planter, every outreach, and every Gospel conversation is strengthened by believers who faithfully intercede for God’s mission. Prayer is not preparation for the mission—it is an essential part of the mission itself.

What Do Groaners Do?
Groaners faithfully pray for the people and places where the Gospel is still needed most.
They may:
- Pray for Unengaged Unreached People Groups
- Intercede for missionaries and mission teams
- Pray for churches and church leaders
- Ask God to raise up more laborers
- Pray for protection, wisdom, and provision
- Intercede for revival and spiritual awakening
- Fast as the Lord leads
- Stay informed about global missions
- Encourage others to join in prayer
While much of their ministry happens quietly, its impact reaches around the world.

The Heart of a Groaner
Groaners carry God’s heart for people.
They believe no one is beyond His reach.
They trust that God is working even when they cannot see the results.
Rather than measuring success by recognition, they find joy in knowing that every prayer offered in faith becomes part of God’s work in the world.
Their confidence isn’t in their words.
It’s in the God who hears them.
How Groaners Strengthen the Ecosystem
Groaners provide the spiritual foundation for the entire 5G Ecosystem.
Their prayers strengthen the Goers serving on the front lines.
They pray for wisdom and provision for the Givers.
They ask God to guide and encourage the Gatherers as they mobilize churches.
They intercede for the Greeters who build authentic relationships and disciple new believers.
Every G benefits from the faithful prayers of the Groaners.
While their work often happens behind the scenes, the fruit of their ministry can be seen wherever the Gospel advances.

Could You Be a Groaner?
You may be a Groaner if you naturally find yourself:
- Burdened for people who don’t know Christ
- Drawn to consistent prayer
- Encouraging others through intercession
- Praying for missionaries and churches
- Believing God for impossible situations
- Fasting and seeking God’s direction
- Celebrating answered prayer
- Trusting God to move in ways only He can
If your heart is stirred when you hear about the nations and your first response is to pray, God may have uniquely gifted you as a Groaner.
Your Next Step
The Kingdom has always advanced on the prayers of faithful believers.
Your prayers may strengthen a missionary you’ve never met. Open a door in a nation you’ve never visited. Encourage a church you’ll never attend. Or prepare a heart you’ll never see.
Never underestimate what God can do through someone willing to faithfully pray.
Perhaps that’s your G.
